From January 2011 the historic alpine hotel Grimsel Hospiz will open its doors for guests in winter - offering a unique opportunity to experience a high alpine winter in exclusive tranquility, harkening back on the old hospiz tradition where traders were given shelter on their way over the pass.
A sojourn at the Grimsel Hospiz is a time out from the rat-race. A luxurious time out in the stylishly renovated hotel where guests can enjoy delicious local specialities and fine wines from the wine cellar. The Grimsel Hotel manager, Mark von Weissenfluh is convinced that this is a unique opportunity. "Where else", says von Weissenfluh, "can you experience a high alpine winter, surrounded by metre high snow in absolute peace and tranquility". Getting there is also a unique experience and involves two aerial cable car rides above untouched winter landscapes, and a "James Bond type" ride through the underground tunnel system. "There is nothing better than relaxing in a deck chair on the terrace of the Grimsel Hospiz and enjoying the spectacular untouched winter landscape" says von Weissenfluh. The location is perfect for seminars and workshops - participants can focus on the task at hand, far away from the daily hustle and bustle - supported by all the modern infrastructure necessary for a successful workshop. The Grimsel Hospiz is in a protected area and the KWO works closely with the cantonal departments responsible for the protection of nature. This close cooperation has made it possible to open the hotel in winter and an important element of the winter sojourn is the unique tranquility of the Grimsel Nollen and surroundings.
A visit to the KWO's power plants and the million year old crystal cavern are just some of the exciting elements in this winter package.
