Construction begin for the Kapf – Innertkirchen parallel shaft
The KWO has begun preparing for the consctruction of the Kapf-Innertkirchen parallel shaft. A transport cable car is currently being constructed and tunneling of the shaft will begin this year.
The necessary permits have been granted for the Kapf – Innertkirchen parallel shaft
The KWO's board of directors have given their okay for the construction of the Kapf – Innertkirchen parallel shaft. Building permission was granted in March 2011. The KWO will invest approx. 85 million Swiss Francs in this project and construction will continue until the middle of 2015.
Parallel Water Intake Handeck - Innertkirchen
The parallel head race tunnel from Handeck to the surge chamber at Kapf has already been completed. A new pressure shaft will now be built, parallel to the existing shaft. The inner dimension of the shaft is 2.4m, the length approx. 2 km. To reduce frictional loss, the shaft will be fitted with steel lining and the gap between lining and surrounding earth will be filled with concrete.
Transport Cable Car
An aerial cable car to transport the heavy building materials is already under construction from „üssren Urweid“ to Kapf. Maximum load capacity is 12 tons and the cable car is 1 km long. The cable car will be ready for use in summer 2012.
Ecological Impact: Depot Blänggen and Transport Regime
The ecological impact is minimal. What will be apparant once the installation is finished is a depot at Blänggen. The rubbel will be transported the short distance to the final depository. The firing range which once stood at this location has been relocated to Urweid.
The original plan was to transport the rubbel by train through the villages of Innertkirchen and Meiringen to the depository at Funtenen. With this new solution the transport by train is no longer necessary which considerably reduces noise, pollution and dust.
Informing the Innertkirchen Inhabitants
An information evening was held on Thursday, 20 October 2011 during which the people of Innertkirchen were informed about the KWO plus projects and in particular the construction of the Kapf - Innertkirchen parallel shaft.
