Storage Lakes

Hydro-dams store energy which can instantly be converted into electricity. They are essential as an energy reserve in times of supply shortages and for the production of electricity on demand.

The KWO's largest storage lakes are situated in the Grimsel area. The mountainous terrain is ideally suitable for storing large amounts of water in dams, 195 million cubic metres of which is stored in the KWO's 8 storage lakes. This represents just over one quarter of the annual precipitation in the KWO's catchment area.
